Professor Jiang is interested in cross-cultural communication. An associate professor who has received his education in various fields—political systems, comparative literature, and historical methodology—he is now pursuing research on mutual studies between China and the United States through travel writings and similar journals. He assumes that the mutual understanding between nations and cultures has always involved improvement in that full understanding could not be reached.
After graduating from the History Department of Peking University in 1983, Dr. Guan joined Peking University’s Department of International Politics, now known as the School of International Studies. He is currently Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, PKU. Dr. Guan’s studies focus on intercultural and international communication. He is the author of Introduction to Intercultural Communication (1995) and International Communication (2004). He is a committee member of the Intercultural Communication Association of China and the Communication Association of China. With the help of the Harvard-Yenching Institute, Dr. Guan and other alumni organized Harvard-Yenching alumni conferences in Beijing in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. He has edited three copies of the symposia of the Beijing Conference of Harvard-Yenching Alumni in China, published by Peking University Press: East Asia’s View on World Culture (2004), East Asia's View on World Culture: Eastern Civilizations in the Process of Globalization (2007) and Order, Fairness and Social Development in Human Civilization (2009).
