On the application of a Harvard faculty member in the humanities and social sciences, grants are made to qualified Asian scholars to permit them to spend between 6-12 months at Harvard working in close collaboration with the applying Harvard scholar on joint research projects. Applications cannot be made by the Asian counterpart directly to the Institute, but must be submitted to the Institute by the Harvard faculty member. The formal application should consist of a letter from the Harvard scholar explaining the project, including why it should be a collaborative work and what each partner brings to the project, as well as the curriculum vitae and list of publications of the Asian scholar. The grant will provide financial support for the Asian Coordinate Researcher but no support for other research expenses. The grant will include roundtrip transportation for the Coordinate Researcher, a monthly stipend for living expenses, and medical insurance for the scholar and for the scholars' family should they accompany her/him. (Please note that the Institute cannot provide stipend support for the family.) The Coordinate Researcher will be invited to participate in the various programs of the Institute's Visiting Scholars Program; however the Harvard faculty member is expected to assist the Coordinate Researcher in finding housing, settling in, etc.) |
