Lecture series on 'Sociological Approaches to Contemporary Chinese Social Issues' held in Vietnam
"Sociological Approaches to Contemporary Chinese Social Issues", a lecture series co-sponsored by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City and the Harvard-Yenching Institute, was held from October 3-8, 2011, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Due to their specific historical, cultural and socio-political backgrounds, contemporary Chinese and Vietnamese societies share a number of social issues in common. The lecture series focused on how boundary-crossing sociological approaches can help to understand these social issues within national, regional, and global contexts.
Guest lecturers included Professors Zhou Xiaohong, Zhou Yi, Lu Huilin and Khun-Eng Kuah-Pearce. The final session of the lecture series consisted of a roundtable discussion between Chinese and Vietnamese scholars. The guest lecturers and their USSH colleagues, along with undergraduate and graduate students in attendance look forward to further institutional and academic collaboration.
