Cao Xinyu is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Qing History, Renmin University of China (China People's University). He received his Ph.D. from Renmin University of China in religious history in 2001. His fields of specialization include social history of the Ming-Qing period (1368--1911), history of Chinese popular religion.
