Koo Bumjin is currently associate professor in the Department of Asian History, Seoul National University. He acquired his Ph.D. degree in 2002 with his dissertation on “A Study on Beiyang Xinzheng: The Reforms on Salt Administration and Public Finance in Zhili Province, 1902-1911.” He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, focusing on how to understand Ming and Qing empires and how to read the archival sources produced by them. His recent research topics include the Qing empire-building process and the historical relation between the Chosŏn and Qing, as well as the Chinese economy and public finance during the Qing era.
