SUMMARY:하버드 엔칭도서관에 소장된 한국 전근대 《법화
경》 전적의 전래과정과 그 문헌학적 가치 연구 [A Study o
n the Transmission and Philological Value of Pre-modern Korean Lotus Sutra
Texts Preserved in the Harvard-Yenching Library]
DESCRIPTION:Co-Sponsored with the Korea Institute \n\nThis talk will be pr
esented in Korean.\n\nThis lecture examines ten Lotus Sutra-related texts
from Korean Buddhist literature housed in the Harvard-Yenching Library. T
he study traces their routes of transmission\, textual forms\, printing me
thods\, and distribution processes. These materials include a variety of s
ources such as a gilt-lettered manuscript from the late Goryeo period\, a
hand-copied scroll by Prince Anpyeong of early Joseon\, donated editions b
y Min Younggyu\, and a collection owned by the German Cheontae Order mo
nk Bruno Petzold. Particularly noteworthy are the woodblock-printed texts
that feature mixed scripts (Classical Chinese and Korean Hangul)\, donor
registries\, and records of monastic networks\, all of which offer valuabl
e insight into the publication culture and social foundations of Buddhism
in the Joseon dynasty. The lecture also explores the broader patterns of t
extual exchange among Korean\, Chinese\, and Japanese Buddhist traditions.
