SUMMARY:Tools of the Trade: The Way Forward
DESCRIPTION:Conference website\n\nAbout the conference: On March 14-16\, 20
 23\, immediately prior to the Association for Asian Studies annual meeting
  in Boston\, Harvard will host an international conference on the transiti
 on from print to digital tools\, databases\, and platforms in Chinese\, Ja
 panese\, Korean\, Vietnamese and Buddhist studies\, sponsored by the sever
 al research institutes and libraries concerned with East Asia at Harvard.\
 n\nThe Conference will have plenary sessions\, at which leaders of librari
 es and research centers in China\, Taiwan\, Japan\, Korea\, Vietnam\, Euro
 pe\, North America\, and Buddhist studies will address their respective st
 rategies for development and which we hope will spark comparisons and cont
 rasts\, mutual learning\, and considerations of improving connectivity acr
 oss national boundaries.  There will be workshops which discuss new techn
 ologies and methods that are not language specific. There will be center p
 resentations at which leading digital humanities/scholarship centers and l
 ibraries introduce the works they have created. Finally\, there will be ex
 emplary projects to introduce particular tools\, platforms\, databases\,
  and platforms. For workshops and exemplary projects we expect to have a c
 ombination of invited presenters and a selection of those who respond to t
 he call-for-presentations.\n\nA conference with support from the Fairbank 
 Center for Chinese Studies\, the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation\, the Digital
  China Initiative\, the Korea Institute\, the Reischauer Institute of Japa
 nese Studies\, the Asia Center\, the Harvard-Yenching Institute\, the Harv
 ard College Library\, the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizat
 ions\, and the Harvard China Fund.
