Joint Conference: Consilience of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science & Technology
The Harvard-Yenching Visiting Scholars Association-Korea (HY-VSA-K, President: Ik-Hwan Lee) and Science and Technology Policy Institute of Korea (STEPI, President: Suk-Joon Kim) co-sponsored The 2011 Joint Conference: Consilience of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science & Technology. The conference was held on June 30, 2011, at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, and over 200 scholars gathered to discuss the topic. At this conference, Dr. Woo Sik Kim, Former Deputy Prime Minister & the Minister of Science and Technology, and Dr. Chung-Kil Chung, Former Presidential Secretary-General, delivered their congratulatory addresses.
The keynote speaker Dr. Hee-Sup Shin (Korea Institute of Science and Technology: KIST), the Director-General of the Brain Science Institute, delivered a special lecture on “Understanding of Human Minds through Research on Brain Sciences.” Prof. Chan-Sup Chung (Yonsei U) presented on “Recent Research on Cognitive Science.” Other topics included “ Cognitive Science and Cinema” (Dr. Gwang-Hyun Sim, Korea Art U) and “Policies on Consilience of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science & Technology.” (Drs. Joo-Yun Cho, Economy, Humanities, and Social Sciences Institute, and Wi-Jin Song, Science & Technology policy Institute)
The 14th Harvard (Biennial) International Symposium on Korean Linguistics
14th Harvard (Biennial) International Symposium on Korean Linguistics (Harvard-ISOKL) was held on August 6-7, 2011 at Maxwell Dworkin Hall, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, sponsored by the Harvard-ISOKL committee and co-sponsored by the Harvard-Yenching Institute. At this conference 49 papers were presented by scholars from Canada, Japan, France, China, and the United States, and Ik-Hwan Lee (Sangmyung U / Yonsei U) delivered an invited lecture.
