XIE Chao is Associate Professor at the Institute of International Studies, Fudan University and Associate Editor-in-Chief of Quarterly Journal of International Politics. He earned his PhD in International Relations from Tsinghua University in 2018. He served as Bangalore Fellow (The Takshashila Institution, July 2019), Raisina Young Fellow (Observer Research Foundation, January 2020) and Kautilya Fellow (India Foundation, January 2020). He was a visiting faculty scholar at Jindal School of International Affairs, O.P. Jindal Global University for two years (2018-2020). He was visiting scholar at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2014 and 2015, and at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Oxford from 2013 to 2014.

His current research touches upon India’s political system, Hindu nationalism and foreign policy. His broader research interests also include major power relations and international relations theories. His book, Governance on Ethnic Relations in India (China Social Sciences Press, 2021) looks at how India handled the Sikh issues and managed its ethnic relations during 1980s. His edited books include India’s Political System (China Social Sciences Press, 2021) as a textbook for students of Indian domestic politics in China and the second edited book (forthcoming in 2026) will look at major themes and trending issues of party politics in India. His HYI research primarily focuses on how Hindu nationalism evolves and impacts India’s domestic and international policies.
