HYI 90th Anniversary Alumni Conference

Organized by the Harvard-Yenching Institute, and co-sponsored with East China Normal University, Fudan University, and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences

To mark the occasion of its 90th anniversary, the Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI) welcomes its alumni to celebrate with us in June 2018 at a special alumni conference in Shanghai. All HYI alumni are warmly welcome to attend the event.

REGISTER FOR THE CONFERENCE

All HYI alumni are warmly welcome to attend the conference. All attendees must fill out the registration form below and return it to HYI by MARCH 15, 2018. You must email the form to yenching@fas.harvard.edu with the subject line “HYI 90th Anniversary Alumni Conference”:

After you submit the form, we will confirm receipt via email within 3 business days. Your registration is not official until you have received the confirmation email from HYI. Please contact HYI if you have not received email confirmation of your registration.
 
Please note that due to size constraints, attendance at the conference panels and dinners is limited to HYI alumni, and we unfortunately cannot accommodate family members or colleagues at the panels and meals. Thank you for your understanding

In addition to the main conference, there will be additional meeting space for informal discussions and for alumni to share information about their recent publications.

AIRFARE

An airfare subsidy is available for HYI alumni* attending the conference from outside the People’s Republic of China (PRC). HYI will reimburse eligible alumni for the cost of an economy-class, round-trip flight between their home airport and Shanghai, up to the amount of USD$500.

Alumni should purchase their own tickets (please find the most economically priced ticket) and then apply for reimbursement (by emailing Susan Scott) after the conference and your return flight home.

HYI is unable to provide travel subsidies for alumni traveling to Shanghai from within mainland China and Hong Kong.

Officially selected panelists will have their full economy-class airfare covered by HYI.

*The airfare subsidy is limited to HYI scholars and fellows (traveling from outside the PRC) from competitively selected HYI fellowship programs. If you are unsure if your program/affiliation with HYI qualifies, please check with us by emailing yenching@fas.harvard.edu. In order to qualify for the travel subsidy, alumni must be affiliated with a university, research center, or other academic institution. Alumni who have retired from a university, research center, or other academic institution are also eligible for the travel subsidy. Alumni without an academic affiliation are welcome to attend the conference and are eligible for hotel coverage (2 nights’ shared accommodation), but are not eligible for the travel subsidy.

ACCOMMODATION

2 nights’ hotel accommodation (Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23) will be covered by HYI for all non-Shanghai based HYI alumni** attending the conference. Attendees will share a room (2 twin beds) at the Jin Jiang Hotel with one other alumnus/alumna. HYI will pay for hotel room/tax, alumni are responsible for additional charges.

HYI is unable to provide accommodation for alumni who live in the Shanghai area.

HYI will arrange accommodation for officially selected panelists directly with the alumni panelists.

**The accommodation coverage is limited to HYI scholars and fellows from competitively selected HYI fellowship programs. If you are unsure if your program/affiliation with HYI qualifies, please check with us by emailing yenching@fas.harvard.edu.
