Yohei Kakinuma is a Professor at the Faculty of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at Waseda University. He was a Visiting scholar from January 2010 to February 2011 at Chinese History Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and from March to June 2025 at Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peking University. His research interests include early and medieval Chinse history. His approach includes historical and philological studies, archaeological excavation, and geographical and anthropological fieldwork with text readings. He has published articles and books in English, Chinese, and Japanese. Moreover, He is a recipient of several academic prizes, such as the Ono Azusa Memorial Prize, Okinaga Sho’ichi Prize, and the Sakurai Tokutaro Prize.
