Hyun-Gwi Park is a social anthropologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. From 2019, she joined as a faculty member at Humanitas College, Kyung Hee University in Seoul, where she teaches cultural anthropology. Her research explores how particular places and people are interconnected within historical and geopolitical contexts, with a focus on the Russian Far East and Russian-speaking Koreans. She is the author of the monograph “The Displacement of Borders among Russian Koreans in Northeast Asia” (2018) and has published research articles on issues such as migration in post-socialist contexts, migrational domestic agriculture, diaspora politics, Sino-Russian border spaces, and local responses to development projects in borderlands. During her time at the Harvard-Yenching Institute in 2025-26, she will focus on linguistic challenges faced by Russian-speaking Koreans who have relocated to South Korea since the 1990s.
