Wenjuan Jia is an associate professor in the Department of Sociology of Shanghai University, and visiting scholar at Harvard-Yenching Institute (2021-2022). Her research fields are labor sociology, and organizational sociology. She has been engaged in labor study for 16 years, and researched on the labor relations in the garment industry in the Pearl River Delta (2005-2007), the labor contract system in China’s construction industry (2007-2010), workshop politics in China’s State-Owned Enterprises (2011 – now), and the character of ideological domination in China’s cultural communication industry (2017-2019). Now, she is conducting research on labor relations in China’s AI industry, especially focuses on the topic of cognitive labor and the specific character of China’s AI labor market. Her publications are on China’s pre-review journals, including Sociological Studies(社会学研究), CPC History Studies (中共党史研究) and so on. Her book: “Selected Indulgency: Workplace Politics and the making of the labor control logic in China’s State-Owned Enterprise” was published by Chinese Social Science Press in 2016.
