Shiyu (Anais) Zhang is a Ph.D. candidate in the Dept. of Government and Public Administration at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include political theory, citizenship theory, and Chinese intellectual history. Her dissertation aims to construct Arendtian citizenship by bringing Arendt into the contemporary citizenship theory debates. At HYI, she will examine how modern Chinese intellectuals construct idea(s) of citizenship to integrate western political ideas in solving Chinese political crisis in late 19th and early 20th century. Shiyu obtained her B.A (2012) in Journalism from Renmin University of China and M.phil. (2014) in Political Philosophy from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In her spare time, she enjoys reading novels, swimming and touring with friends.
