Former HYI Board of Trustees Chair Terry Lautz publishes book on “Americans in China”

The Institute is pleased to share that Dr. Terry Lautz, who previously served as Chair of the Harvard-Yenching Institute Board of Trustees, has recently published a book entitled Americans in China: Encounters with the People’s Republic (Oxford University Press, 2022). The book “features stories of Americans who were trailblazers in forging greater awareness of the People’s Republic of China; sheds light on the practice of politics, diplomacy, business, law, journalism, scholarship, the arts and science between China and the United States; and contrasts America’s search for shared values with China’s determination to chart its own path,” and includes a chapter on HYI Director Prof. Elizabeth Perry.
