New HYI Affiliates for the Spring 2013 Semester

The Harvard-Yenching Institute is pleased to welcome several new affiliates for the spring semester:

Chin Sei-Jeong (History, Ewha Womans University)
Harvard-Yenching Library Fellow
Sei Jeong Chin is a historian of modern China, specializing in political, social and cultural history as well as legal history in 20th century China. She is currently working on a new project on the Chinese propaganda during the Korean War (1950-1953). At the same time, she is revising her dissertation into a book manuscript, which explores the transformation of the media culture and its impact on the changes of the relations between the state and the political dissidents from the Nationalist period (1927-1949) to the early PRC (1949-1957). She received her B.A. and M.A. from Ewha Womans University, and Ph.D. from Harvard University. She worked as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the U.S. (2007-2008) and taught various courses on Chinese history. During her graduate years at Harvard, she spent a year in China as a visiting scholar at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and did her field research in various cities including Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, Chongquing in China and Taibei in Taiwan. 

Long Xiangyang (龙向洋) (Literature, Fudan University)
Harvard-Yenching Library Fellow
Xiangyang Long is a Chinese acquisitions librarian at Fudan University Library. He received his BA, MA and PhD in Literature from East China Normal University. His research focuses on Chinese Bibliography during the ROC and PRC periods.

Tian Wuxiong (田武雄) (Modern Chinese History, Peking University)
Archival Research Training Program
Wuxiong Tian is a PhD candidate in the History Department at Peking University. He obtained his BA in History from Peking University in 2007. His research interests include Sino-North Korea relations, contemporary China studies and archival research. His dissertation focuses on the relationship among state, clan and local politics in the Guanzhong Region since 1949.

Zhao Tingyang (赵汀阳) (Chinese Thought, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences)
Visiting Lecturer, HYI and EALC
Zhao Tingyang is a Visiting Lecturer with the Harvard-Yenching Institute and the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Harvard University. He is Great Wall Professor of Philosophy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a steering member of Transcultura European and a curator of its Chinese program. His research interests include political philosophy, ontology and ethics.
