Deng Fei is an Associate Researcher in Chinese Art History at the National Institute of Advanced Humanistic Studies at Fudan University, China. She received her B.A. in History from Peking University, and completed her Ph.D. at Oxford University in 2010 with a dissertation on “Understanding Efficacy: A Study of Decorated Tombs in Northern Song China (960—1127).” Her research interests include the visual culture of mid-imperial China, funerary and sacred art, and how people produced, used, and understood images within different contexts. She is currently completing a book manuscript, tentatively entitled Image, Space and Belief: Decorated Tombs of the Song and Jin China.
