Heng Piphal (Department of Anthropology) is originally from Siem Reap, Cambodia. After earning his B.A in Archaeology from the Royal University of Fine Arts (Phnom Penh) in 2002, he worked on various national and international research projects focusing on archaeology, ethnology, and cultural site management in Cambodia. In April 2009 he obtained his M.A. degree in Anthropology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa under a Fulbright scholarship.  He has recently been awarded a doctoral scholarship from Harvard-Yenching Institute to support his current Ph.D. studies in anthropology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His interests lie in early state formation of the pre-Angkor period (6th-8th centuries CE) in Cambodia.
