Jely A. GALANG

Jely A. Galang is Professor of History and Scientist I at the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman. He served as Deputy Director of the UP Third World Studies Center. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Studies Journal, the official publication of the Philippine Association for Chinese Studies. His research interests include the nineteenth century Philippines, ethnic Chinese in Southeast Asia, modern history of China, and history of crime and punishment. His forthcoming book, Vagrants and Outcasts, to be published by Cornell University Press, examines the lives and circumstances of laboring class Chinese in the nineteenth-century Philippines.
