Kai Yang is Assistant Professor (Presidential Early Career Scholar) in the Department of Government and International Affairs, Lingnan University, Hong Kong. He attained his PhD in political science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Previously, he held visiting fellowship at the University of Vienna (2020-21) with the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Ernst Mach Grant (EPU), and the University of California, Berkeley (2021-22) funded by the China-U.S. Scholars Program (CUSP).
His research covers contentious politics and state-veteran relations, and he is the organizer of a Military and Veteran Governance Workshop Series under the Governance and Bureaucracy Lab at Lingnan University. He has two ongoing projects funded by the General Research Fund (GRF), Research Grants Council of Hong Kong. His research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Comparative Politics, Critical Asian Studies, The China Journal, The China Quarterly, Journal of Contemporary China, Modern China, and China Review.
