Lee Chee Yong is a Ph.D. candidate in Humanities at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his M.A. from Peking University and a B.A. from the University of Malaya. Lee’s research interests cover emotions in maritime writing, the domestication of Western knowledge in print culture, and the diasporic writings of southbound Chinese literati in Nanyang/Southeast Asia. He is currently writing his dissertation that investigates how Asian writers and communities imagine Nanyang in the context of maritime adventures, in hopes of exploring the connections between literature, culture, and the maritime world.
