Trained in anthropology at Tsinghua University, with an earlier background in Burmese language and literature at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Lingqi works broadly in the context of Monsoon Asia. His research begins with migrant place-making around religious sites and extends to the social worlds connecting India, Myanmar, and Thailand. Drawing on long-term, multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork across the region, he examines how migrant communities create places of worship, livelihood, and belonging amid political and economic uncertainties. His current work brings these dispersed sites, histories, and encounters into conversation, exploring how connections across South and Southeast Asia can contribute to broader understandings of mobility, space, and religion.
