Liu Jiaying is a Lecturer of Ethnology and Anthropology at Southwest Minzu University. She received her Ph.D. in anthropology from Southern Illinois University in 2019. Her interests include shamanic ritual, social memory, and semiotic anthropology. Jiaying is a Nuosu Yi and has conducted her doctoral research about the magico-religious practices of Nuosu Yi people living in the Greater Cool Mountains (Da Liangshan) in southwestern China. Her current research focuses on the oral and ritual traditions, contemporary music practices, and the socio-sonic history of the Nuosu Yi people.
