Liu Qing is an Associate Professor at the School of Public Administration, Sichuan University, China. He obtained his PhD from the Department of Sociology at The University of Hong Kong. His research interests include the anthropology of development, non-governmental organizations, rural studies, post-disaster recovery, and Chinese politics. He has published articles in The China Quarterly, Journal of Contemporary China, China Information, and other prestigious journals. Additionally, he serves as the principal investigator for projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China and other research initiatives. During his time at HYI, he focuses on examining the role of frontline officials in shaping village elections under China’s “one-shoulder pole” policy.
