Years of Stay at HYI

Feb 1997 to Aug 1997

University Affiliation (Current)

I have focused on history of the Buddhist Canon, particularly the Yongle Northern Canon engraved in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). I have traveled worldwide to investigate the extant copies of the Yongle Northern Canon, mainly in Princeton University, University of Chicago, Jagiellonian University, Kracow, Poland and more than 25 temples, museums and libraries in China. I have found many things that scholars have never studied before. In 2017, I rediscovered a rare volume of the Lotus Sutra in the Tangut language in Jagiellonian Library, Poland. This is the only extant copy written in gold powder on the indigo paper. I have published more than twenty papers on Chinese Buddhist canon, particularly editions of the Buddhist canon in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
