Nguyen Quang Dung was born in Hoi An, Vietnam. He received his B.A. in Oriental Studies from Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City, where he subsequently worked as a research assistant at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies. In 2007, he was awarded a Rockefeller Foundation scholarship to pursue an M.A. in Southeast Asian Studies at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. He completed his Ph.D. at the National University of Singapore in 2017, supported by the NUS–Harvard-Yenching Institute Joint Scholarship Program, which included three semesters at Harvard-Yenching Institute. His earlier research focused on environmental conflicts and environmental communication. He now works on technocultural processes in Vietnam, particularly digital nationalism and the digital communication of cultural values, as well as the role of AI in cultural production.
