Puree Sirasoontorn is currently an Assistant Professor at Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University in Thailand. She received her Master of Economics of Development and Ph.D. in Economics from the Australian National University. She has been the recipient of many scholarships and awards for her education and research, to name a few, Australia-International Monetary Fund Scholarship, Helen Hughes Prize, Harvard-Yenching Institute Doctoral Scholarship and Nippon Foundation Fellowship. Her research interests include economics of regulation and competition policy, industrial economics, energy economics, telecommunication and media economics, development economics and institutional economics.
Her publications and research experiences in the energy economics and regulatory field in Thailand have been extensive, including of electricity tariff regulation; implication of Energy Industry Act for Thai energy sector; economic measures and policy on energy crisis; lignite pricing; liquefied petroleum gas pricing and subsidization policy; and an analysis of petroleum fiscal regime in Thailand. She is a frequent guest lecturer on regulatory economics to energy regulators and utilities from various countries such as Bangladesh, Namibia and ASEAN countries.
Her research interest extends to economic measures and policies and governance issues on climate change and digital economy. She has conducted her research on energy and digital economy with various international and national organizations, including of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Asian Development Bank, the United States Agency for International Development, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, the Thailand Development Research Institute, and Petroleum Institute of Thailand
She also advised Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand as member of subcommittee on electricity tariff regulation. She was a member of subcommittee on Determination of License Fees and Price Structures in Broadcasting Services and subcommittee on Frequency Valuation and Determination of License Fees and Price Structures in Broadcasting Services for National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand.
Puree serves as a referee in various journals such as Regulation & Governance, Energy Policy, Low Carbon Economy, International Energy Journal, Applied Economic Journal, Journal of Southeast Asian Economies, and Thammasat Economic Journal, and occasionally writes newspaper columns on energy policy and infrastructural reform and regulation.
