Wendy Gan is an Associate Professor in the School of English at the University of Hong Kong. Her PhD from King’s College London was on interwar British women’s writing and she is the author of Women, Privacy, and Modernity in Early Twentieth Century British Writing (Palgrave Macmillan 2009). She has also written on Hong Kong cinema and amongst her film-related publications is a book for the New Hong Kong Cinema Series published by the Hong Kong University Press titled, Fruit Chan’s Durian Durian (2005). In the summer of 2015 she was a recipient of a Mayers Fellowship at the Huntington Library, where she was working on her new book project on comic representations of China and the Chinese in British and American writing between 1880-1945.
During the 2015-2016 academic year, Professor Gan will be a HYI Visiting Scholar and Radcliffe Fellow in Residence.
