XUE Huiwen
薛惠文

Huiwen Xue is a PhD candidate in the Research School for Southeast Asian Studies at Xiamen University and is currently a Visiting Student at Chiang Mai University (2025-26). She received her MA in Southeast Asian Studies from Chulalongkorn University. Her research spans the Chinese diaspora and their identity construction, the Cold War and nation-building in Southeast Asia, and the coloniality of the region. At HYI, she intends to advance her dissertation on “Thainess” and “Chineseness,” internal regional hierarchies, and ethnic stratification in Thailand. Through this fellowship, she hopes to enter a new stage of her research journey, acquire new theoretical and methodological tools, and expand her horizons to the broader world beyond Southeast Asia.
