YUN Aelim

Aelim Yun is a labor law researcher with a Ph.D. from Seoul National University. She is a Senior Researcher at the Law Research Institute of Seoul National University, and an Advisory Committee Member at the National Human Rights Commission of Korea. She is also Director of the Institute of Workers’ Rights in Seoul, which is a leading advocacy organizations to develop labor law theories and legal policies for workers and their organizations.

From 2001-2005, she served as Research Director of the Korean Solidarity against Precarious Work, a membership-based labor organization, and from 2008-2012 she was a Policy Coordinator of the Korean Committee of Precarious Workers Unions. She was a visiting scholar at the International Institute for Labour Studies of the International Labour Organization (ILO); the Wirtschafts- und SozialwissenschaftlicheInstitut (WSI); and the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI).

As both a scholar and workers’ rights advocate, she focuses on precarious employment and social movement unionism, particular in the contexts of global value chains, taking a socio-legal approach. Her academic association membership is the International Lawyers Assisting Workers (ILAW); the International Sociological Association (ISA); the Association for Asian Studies; and the Labour Law Research Network (LLRN) where she served as a Steering Committee Member (2021-2025.)
