Younghwan Park is an Emeritus Professor of Chinese Literature at Dongguk University (since September 2024) and a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Chinese Studies and the Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. in Classical Chinese Literature from Peking University. He served as a professor at Dongguk University from 1997 to 2024, where he also held positions as Director of the International Language Institute and Director of the Office of International Affairs.

His research focuses on Song Dynasty Zen Buddhism and poetry, Confucian-Buddhist synthesis in East Asia, Humanistic Buddhism in China and Taiwan, and premodern Korea-China cultural exchange. He has conducted academic visits at leading institutions including Peking University, Zhejiang University, Taiwan University, Kyoto University, Harvard University, Academia Sinica, and the Center for Chinese Studies.

His major publications include A Study on Sushi’s Zen Poems (1995), Understanding of Zen in Song Poetry (2018), and Cultural Korean Wave and China & Japan (2008). His recent work centers on rare Korean Buddhist manuscripts held at the Harvard-Yenching Library and the development of regional religious thought in East Asia.
