Vu Duong Luan is a Junior Research Fellow at the Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam. Before becoming a Ph.D. student in Chinese history at Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China in 2012, he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees in Vietnamese history from the Department of History, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. During his time at HYI, he will conduct dissertation research on the socio- economic history of the Sino-Vietnamese border region in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from autonomous and transnational perspectives.
