Đặng Hoài Giang

Dang Hoai Giang is Associate Professor of Cultural Studies and Vietnamese Studies at the VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. He received his PhD in Cultural Studies from the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies in 2016. His research lies at the intersection of cultural anthropology and Vietnamese studies, with a particular focus on cultural change and indigenous resilience in contemporary Vietnam.

Drawing on extensive ethnographic fieldwork in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, he has published widely on indigenous resilience, village transformation, religious conversion, and sustainable development. His monograph, The Transformation of Ede Village Cultural Space in Buon Ma Thuot City since 1975, was published by VNU Press in 2020.

His current research examines how indigenous communities negotiate rapid urbanization and social change in post-socialist Vietnam. More broadly, he is interested in cultural heritage and heritage-making, regional identities, rural transformation, and the role of cultural and creative industries in sustainable development.
